With over 30 years of experience in the construction industry, Darren began his career at 15, working in his father’s remodeling business. He soon became a licensed electrician and HVAC installer, specializing in high-efficiency systems long before they were widely adopted.
Driven by a deep commitment to quality and customer satisfaction, Darren eventually became a partner in the family business, overseeing numerous spec home builds and remodels throughout Chicagoland.
Darren’s passion for indoor air quality, HVAC systems, building science, and problem-solving has made him an expert in diagnosing complex home issues. Having inspected and worked on hundreds of homes, he has a unique ability to resolve challenges that others often miss.
In 2024, Darren teamed up with his longtime friend Rafael, whose expertise in duct and system cleaning perfectly complements Darren’s background in HVAC and construction. Together, they founded Safe Air Pros, focusing on improving indoor air quality for individuals with respiratory sensitivities, including those affected by CIRS and biotoxin-related illnesses.

Rafael is a specialized home inspector with extensive experience assessing risks in Water Damaged Buildings (WDB) through his work with Safestart Environmental.
Previously, he owned a duct and HVAC cleaning company, where he developed a deep understanding of the unique needs of clients with chronic illnesses and sensitivities. His work within the CIRS community further reinforced the importance of offering cleaning services that go beyond industry standards.
Since co-founding Safe Air Pros with Darren Eckes, Rafael has perfected the art of duct and system cleaning. He employs advanced air extraction techniques and high-resolution probe cameras to ensure that ductwork and systems are cleaned to the highest standards, providing clients with healthier, safer indoor environments.
